Claude's Off Grid Tiny House
Customer: Claude
Model: Grand Sojourner
Location: Southern Highlands, NSW
Purpose: Weekender for family & friends
Many people dream about buying empty land far from the city to set up a tiny house completely off the grid. Claude did it.
Our customer, Claude, shares his transformative experience of setting up a Häuslein tiny house on his remote 170-acre bush property in the Southern Highlands of NSW.
“When I bought that land, tiny homes weren't even on my radar. I always thought I was just going to build something there.”
Given the remoteness of the property and steepness of the terrain it was always going to be a difficult and slow process to get tradesmen to build a regular dwelling.
After ruling out a caravan, Claude described what happened next, “I came across the word “tiny home”, and started to research and I came across your YouTube video and when I saw that, I gelled with it. I think I literally bought it that day!”
Claude chose to build a tiny house offsite with Häuslein and have it delivered to his remote property.
The delivery was challenging with many steep climbs, twists and turns, and uneven gravel roads to finally arrive at the clearing which had been chosen and prepared.
Now, perched high on a hillside, the tiny house is wrapped by a huge 130 sqm deck made from reclaimed railway sleepers to take full advantage of the breathtaking views and vast night sky.
The tiny house is off grid for absolutely everything including solar power system with panels on the roof, inverter and solar battery.
Gutters were added after delivery to collect rainwater into the 10,000L water tank complete with filtration system and water pump.
Instantaneous hot water is supplied by two large 45kg gas cylinders.
Waste water from the sink, shower and dishwasher safely flows away into the grey water system.
The house is set up with a composting toilet.
And with StarLink mounted on the service end of the house Claude and his family enjoy uninterrupted fast Internet.
What really drew Claude to Hauslein in the first place was the quality of workmanship and design. He had two criteria: design and quality.
Claude and his family now frequently escape Sydney to enjoy their fully self-sufficient hideout in the Southern Highlands.
We are grateful to our customers for sharing their unique stories and experiences with us. It brings us great joy and renews our inspiration and commitment to building some of the highest quality and most beautiful tiny houses in Australia.
